Mentorship
As Doulas, we came to this profession, because there was something that ignited us to support families during this precious time. It could have been from personal experience or just passion for all things pregnancy, birth, and babies. For many Doulas, providing non-judgmental support and having great listening skills come naturally. Knowing how to structure prenatal visits, squeeze a hip, or support clients during birth may need more practice.
Sure, you took training, but how did you leave after your training? Did you wish there was more time spent going over comfort measures? How about practicing prenatal and/or postpartum visits? Or, those important things like client agreements, intake forms, policies, and procedures to help you have a great start on your business?
